BASIC DEFENSE CARBINE COURSE BDC-1 New One-Day Session
Many of our clients have chosen to add a carbine to their defensive firearms battery. Typically, this takes the form of an AR or AK platform weapon in either 5.56 NATO or 7.62 x39 caliber. Such firearms offer low recoil, inherent shootability, and reasonable accuracy for their intended defensive purpose. They are also suitable for survival and recreational purposes as well.
However, up until now, there has been little opportunity for the civilian shooter to receive meaningful instruction with the defense carbine without a major investment of time and travel expense, when what most carbine owners really need, as a starting point, is orientation and familiarization with their new weapon. PPI is now pleased to be able to offer such basic instruction on a local level, at a fraction of the cost associated with larger out-of- state schools. The BDC-1 Course will be offered at our range facility in Doswell, Virginia near King's Dominion.
COURSE STRUCTURE AND OVERVIEW
Our Basic Defense Carbine Course (BDC-1) is offered on a single weekend day, in conjunction with our related Basic Defense Shotgun Course (BDS-1). Students may elect to participate in both long-gun programs in a bundled package, or take either course as a stand-alone activity. Participants in BDC-1 will receive education and practice in the following areas:
Overview of Instruction and Safety Briefing
Carbine Strengths, Weaknesses, and Capabilities
Basic Carbine Shooting Positions
Practical Carbine Ballistics and Ammunition Selection
Establishing a Working Zero for the Defense Carbine
Standardized Courses of Fire and Marksmanship Evaluation
Reloading
Carbine Cleaning and Maintenance
EQUIPMENT NEEDS
Students in BDC-1 will need to supply their own defense oriented carbine in either 5.56 mm or 7.62x39 chambering. Instruction will focus on semi-automatic versions of AR and AK platform carbines, but similar firearms are welcome. Other calibers may be allowed with advance notice. Firearms with full-auto capability are strictly prohibited. Each student will need 200 rounds of ammunition, hearing and eye protection, and a cleaning kit with appropriate supplies for their weapon. A hat, as well as a simple mat for prone shooting will enhance student comfort. Specialty items such as shooting jackets and shooting gloves are not necessary. Optically sighted firearms are welcome, but iron sight capability is best.
