From Richmond:
Take I-95 North to Exit 98 (Doswell) and turn right at the head of the exit as if you were going
to King’s Dominion.
From Washington, DC:
Take I-95 South to Exit 98 (Doswell) and turn left at the head of the exit as if you were going
to King's Dominion.
Then:
Pass the amusement park on your right, cross the railroad tracks, and immediately turn right
onto Doswell Road. Travel to the end of Doswell Road, (about a mile) and you will see signs
that you are entering private property and that you should stop and turn around. These signs
do not apply to you if you are a PPI student coming for a scheduled lesson. If you are not, or
have not been otherwise invited please be advised you are trespassing and will likely be
arrested.
Proceed onto the property, driving slowly on the gravel road. The driveway will bring you to a
brick home and several other structures. DO NOT stop at this point, or disturb the people who
live there. The road will turn to the right at this point. Follow the road and you will drive onto
the firing range where you will see PPI Staff.
Please make an effort to be on time, but arriving very early (more than 15 minutes ahead of
schedule) poses a supervision problem while we are setting up the range. When you get to
the range, please leave any weapons in your car until advised by the instructor to bring them
out. If you arrive and PPI staff members are not yet present, please remain by your car, do not
handle any weapons for any reason, and someone will be with you shortly. If you have
difficulty getting to the range or need to cancel, please call (804) 332-6201.
Chairs and water are provided for your comfort at range sessions, but the range has no
natural shade…so bring a hat! A small towel in the summer months is also useful. It is also
helpful if you wear pants that have large pockets and belt loops with a belt. In cooler months,
jackets and gloves are recommended.
Please be advised that our range is not open to the public, and is not a gun club. If you are
not scheduled for a firing range lesson or otherwise invited, you should not visit the range
property. Presence on the range of unscheduled visitors results in a police response, and if
you are there without a reservation they will consider you a trespasser. Also, if you have not
reserved a position in the range course specifically for that day, please do not just “show up”
in the hope that we will have space. We maintain a set instructor/student ratio for safety
reasons, and therefore must know that you are coming to accommodate you. Please call first!
Cancellations and Rescheduling:
All outdoor ranges are, to a certain extent weather-dependent, and ours is no different. In the
event you have questions about weather cancellations on the day of the event, please contact
us at (804) 332-6201 two hours before the start time of the event, and we'll have a decision
for you. If we have to cancel due to weather (or other factors which are our responsibility) you
are entitled to rescheduling to our next regularly scheduled session, or in some cases, a
special "rain day". Under these circumstances, you may also request a full refund of any
money paid for range lessons if that is what you prefer.
When you must cancel or reschedule a range activity based on your choice, our policy is as
follows. This policy has been made necessary by students who book firing range lessons and
either do not show up, or who reschedule repeatedly. We have no desire to be harsh in
emergencies or circumstances which are truly beyond your control, but please understand
that for safety reasons, we have hired instructors for the day to maintain a proper
instructor/student ratio based on the expected size of the group. We simply cannot bear the
expense of short-notice cancellations, so the following policy is in effect:
If you need to cancel or reschedule your range lesson, and you give us 72 hours advance
notice by phone or e-mail, there is no penalty to you, and we'll be happy to reschedule you. If
you give us less than 72 hours notice, you will be charged a cancellation / rescheduling fee
equal to 50% of the tuition for that activity. If you do not attend your session and do not notify
us in advance, you will be charged for 100% of your lesson and there will be no refund
given, nor rescheduling until new tuition is paid. In true emergencies, PPI may, at its sole
discretion, waive or alter this policy in favor of the student.
