COURSE ANNOUNCEMENT HANDGUN PRACTICAL SKILLS 1 and 2 With Night Fire Session, April 7-8, 2012
The Personal Protection Institute is pleased to announce that our Handgun Practical Skills 1 (HPS-1) and Handgun Practical Skills 2 (HPS-2) Programs are now available in small group sessions on weekends. These one-day programs will be held on consecutive days at our range facility in Doswell, Virginia, just north of Richmond.
DESCRIPTION OF HPS-1 AND HPS-2 COURSES
These programs are designed for the student who has already selected a firearm for self- defense, and who has received entry level instruction in its safe handling and in basic marksmanship. Those who have already attended a basic safety and marksmanship course such as the Safe Start Program with the Introductory Range Training Session, or equivalent training from other organizations, will receive the most benefit from these training opportunities. These course experiences are the logical next step for those who have taken the Safe Start Program, achieved their concealed carry permit, and wonder "What comes next?"
Graduates of Handgun Practical Skills 1 and 2 will have received instruction and skill practice that meets or exceeds that experienced by the majority of Virginia's law enforcement officers, under the direction of highly qualified current and former police officers, military personnel, and federal agents. These programs are NOT appropriate for students with no prior handgun experience, or those who have not yet selected a defensive firearm.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
Working in a small group setting, participants will build their competence in areas of marksmanship fundamentals, gun handling, and introductory tactics. Students will learn and practice safe draw of handguns from concealment, reloading techniques, malfunction clearance, basic flashlight use and other essential gun handling skills. Participants will engage targets from a variety of positions, and incorporate the use of cover in solving self- defense practical problems.

Detailed directions to the course site and pre-course information are provided with your confirmed registration and final payment, which must be received no later than two weeks before your preferred course dates. Registration is on a first-come, first served basis. Advance payment is required for registration confirmation. Each program is strictly limited to 16 students and early registration is advised.
COURSE PREREQUISITES
Those wishing to enroll in the HPS-1 program must have either completed the Safe Start Program, as well as the Introductory Range Training Session (Group or Private), or must demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience by virtue of prior training elsewhere. Those enrolling for HPS-2 must have successfully completed HPS-1 or its equivalent. The final decision on eligibility for these programs rests with PPI instructional staff. Students who have not previously trained with PPI will need to demonstrate good character by providing a copy of a valid Concealed Handgun Permit, law enforcement, military, or security credentials or other alternative means as approved in advance by the Institute. Those with questions about their eligibility for this program should contact PPI well in advance of their preferred course dates.
