A Virginia concealed handgun permit is valid statewide, but many are surprised to find that quite a few other states will
officially recognize your Virginia permit for non-resident carry within their borders, consistent with their laws. While most
of these states have similar restrictions on concealed carry to those encountered in Virginia, some are significantly
more restrictive. It is important that you research the specific rules, regulations and limitations on concealed carry for
the state(s) you wish to visit.

Note - Your Virginia Concealed Carry Permit is also honored in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The regulation allowing this is a
bit obscure, and some sites will tell you your permit is not honored. Please see the BATF Guide to State Firearms
Laws, 22nd Edition, Virgin Islands section, with particular attention to Paragraph 460. You may be required to obtain a
temporary permit while in the Virgin Islands, good for 90 days.
The following states have a mechanism to grant, on application, a non-resident permit to law-abiding citizens of other
states under certain circumstances. Some of these permits may be extremely difficult or expensive to obtain, or require
travel to the issuing state. Please remember that these states do NOT recognize your Virginia permit automatically, but
MAY grant you one of theirs.
Connecticut Maine New Jersey New Hampshire
Rhode Island Washington State
